Bio

Mark Stosiak is a Montreal-based artist. With a love of colours and a strong drive to work with his hands, he enjoys a variety of creative pursuits. When he's not making things, he's likely playing with his cat or out for a walk.

As humans, so overwhelmed with the trials of life, we tend to forget who we really are. With my art I make people pause, and take a deeper look.

Images and inspiration can come at any time. Whether meditating, walking in the city, or being in nature. It can come as an idea or feeling I want to convey, or as a fully formed image. I see myself as a channel for creativity rather than the actual creator. By quieting my mind and observing, I let the painting tell me what it needs next.

Building up colour and form with layers of transparent acrylic paint, I allow it to evolve as it needs to. As paintings progress they take on dreamlike qualities where time, space and matter overlap and intermingle, the edges lost, if they ever existed at all…

Great art has the power to awaken something within us, a sense of awe and wonder towards the artwork and the world.

In my Paintings, I explore fleeting visionary experiences, dreams, visions of other realms and planes of reality. Being able to suspend thought for just a moment, we can remember that there is much more going on than we realize.
